Following an e-bike charging mishap that sparked a flat fire in Chelmsford, crews have issued crucial safety advice.

On April 9th, at 1:13 pm, we responded to Gloucester Avenue, where two crews from Chelmsford promptly arrived.

Watch Manager Andy Edwards recounted, “Neighbours were alarmed by a loud bang and witnessed sparks emanating from the front door.”

Upon arrival, crews encountered the entire ground floor ablaze and swiftly managed to contain the fire.

Fortunately, the occupants detected the fire promptly and evacuated unscathed, averting a potential tragedy.

This incident underscores the importance of safely charging e-bikes and e-scooters, ensuring chargers and batteries are in optimal condition.

By 1:47 pm, the fire was extinguished.

The ground floor of the flat sustained significant fire damage, while the first floor endured smoke and heat damage.

The Red Cross is providing support to the occupants.
